The new face of Horror

Since its Television Debut in 2011 the brainchild of creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk raked criticisms awards and acclaims of all sorts. The complex anthology series explores and expands on the idea of what horror can be which till then the genre unfortunately was reduced to a series of flat storylines with cheap jump-scares from, you guessed it! another ghost from the mid 18th century or a killer clown.

The ingenious series breathes new air into the genre reviving its on-screen presence and in time creating a cult (no pun intended) of crazed fans globally leeching off iconic tagline and references, of which there are ample amounts. The series includes references from all eras when creating the characters and storyline both of which come with an array of complex backgrounds which all come together to deliver a bone chilling, terrifying visually striking, jaw dropping and unforgettable visual experience. Tying in romance and drama the series is nothing short of a masterpiece and deserved every single piece of acclaim it gathered.

The series helped propel the career of many upcoming actors while also featured one of the biggest names in acting, Jessica Lange, who before her appearance on the show had taken a small brake from the industry. The cast list also includes the likes of Kathy Bates, Evan Peters, Sarah Paulson, Denis O'Hare and more. The names remain relatively untampered with from season to season, although to the dismay of many fans Lange called quits on her collaboration with the series with "Freakshow" marking her last appearance on the show portraying Elsa Mars, in her position casting recruited a someone close to the hearts of many, Lady Gaga who, despite biased critiques and the magnifying glass on her filling in for Lange, went on to win a Golden Globe award for best actress for her role in "Hotel" as the countess. Regardless, the characters couldn't differ any more from season to season much like the storylines, or so you'd think at first glance. While it is an anthology series there are loose ends tucked neatly away in the smallest details of episodes from each season which can be traced back and tied to events which happened in another season, or have yet to happen all whilst remaining historically accurate.

What also caught the eye of the viewer were the eerie but impeccable promotional posters which come with each new season and have fans waiting in nail biting anticipation for the next one to be revealed which often hints the main theme of the forthcoming season. The seasons so far as as follows:

S1. Murder House

S2. Asylum

S3. Coven

S4. Freakshow

S5. Hotel

S6. Roanoke

S7. Cult
