Maters of Design: Marc Jacobs

The Fall\Winter 2018 shows are now coming to a gradual end which allows for some retrospective reflection onto what the designers delivered this season and much like every time, Gucci delivered an astounding show with memorable pieces and a cohesive storyline which marked fashion headlines from Vogue to the smallest independent Zine.

As Gucci has resivced their very well deserved exposure and coverage, a few other collections may have fallen under the radar, one of which is Marc Jacobs f\w 2018 ready to wear. The runway's high contrasting light setting in NYC's Park Avenue accompanied by the elaborately styled pieces showcasing Marc's skilful design aesthetic enamoured all the attendees in a spell to be remembered throughout the whole season and many more to come. The collection featured all the hallmarks of 1980's Haute couture from wide shoulders, big bows and pleated pants to neck flourishes all modernised by amping up the size; a lot. Although taking place in a period where fashion is re-emagining the 80's this collection couldn't have traded further from the trends currently dominating the runway which is a breath of fresh air and the reassurance that fashion has yet to be entirely homogenised.

The dark, sultry, sexy collection Marc sent down the runway had a lingering sense of something menacing, the unnerving shadows casted on the models faces from the oversized circular fedora hats, the exaggerated feminine silhouettes and the dramatic draping all came together to deliver a hauntingly beautiful vision.
